Brussels Office

Brussels Office in brief
De Brauw's international competition and regulatory practice has grown sharply over the past five years. At the same time the role of the European Commission's decisions and rulings has increased steadily, leading to a greater need for specialised advice. De Brauw had an office in Brussels from 1973 to 2002, and decided to reopen the office in the summer of 2011.The Brussels office is headed by resident partners partners Jaap de Keijzer and Douwe Groenevelt.

Our expertise
EU and Competition law, and matters relating to the regulation of the financial, energy, telecom and transport markets.

Our clients
Our clients include major Dutch corporates, financial institutions, investment banks and private equity companies. We advise them on their dealings with not only national competition and regulatory authorities and the European Commission, but also on proceedings before the national courts and the European Court of Justice. We also increasingly assist our clients in Competition law related
matters outside Europe.

Our focus
We advise on the full spectrum of both EU and Dutch Competition law, as well as on general European law and state aid. Our Competition practice specialises in merger control, cartels and abuse of dominant position. We are leading experts in the interface of IP and Competition law, with a special focus on the Finance, Energy, Technology, Telecoms and Transport industry sectors.  Our office in Brussels forms an integral part of De Brauw's Competition and Regulation practice headquartered in Amsterdam, which numbers more than 30 lawyers.

We share our office in Brussels with five other top tier independent law firms: Slaughter and May (UK), Hengeler Mueller (Germany), Uría Menéndez (Spain), Bredin Prat (France) and Bonelli Erede Pappalardo  (Italy). We enjoy close (non-exclusive) working relationships with these firms. We also nurture similar links with other first tier law firms in every major jurisdiction around the world, which means that coordination of multi-jurisdictional merger filings in and outside Europe, as well as international cartel investigations and litigation is an integrated part of our practice.
