Douwe Groenevelt specialises in EU and Dutch competition law, with a special focus on the technology sector. He heads the Brussels Office of De Brauw, together with Jaap de Keijzer. His practice ranges from merger control cases and cartel investigations to abuse of dominance matters. Building on his substantial experience in intellectual property law (cross-border patent and copyright litigation), he is particularly involved in the interface of IP and competition law.
Douwe is a member of the law faculty of the VU University Amsterdam, where he lectures on, amongst others, the competition law aspects of technical standards.
Recent work includes
- acting for a global electronics company on the worldwide merger control filings (including the European Commission filing) related to a joint venture with a Chinese state-owned entity
- acting for a pharmaceutical company in an abuse of dominance matter involving patent rights
- acting for a telecom operator as well as two handset manufacturers on the competition-law (FRAND) aspects of major international patent infringement suits.
