Geert Potjewijd is the resident partner at De Brauw’s Beijing office. He focuses on corporate matters, particularly mergers and acquisitions and related financing, and advises on all aspects of the structuring of investments through the Netherlands. He regularly works on cross-border transactions with international law firms in Asia, Europe and the US.
Geert specialises in corporate law and has been involved in mergers and acquisitions as well as in M&A-related litigation. He has represented corporate clients and institutional investors in complex shareholders and securities litigation and regularly advises on directors’ and officers’ liability.
Recent work includes advising:
· a Chinese car manufacturer on its potential investment in a financially distressed Swedish car manufacturer with a Dutch holding company listed on Euronext Amsterdam.
· the Hong Kong listed company MIE Holdings Corporation on the USD 170 million acquisition of Kazakhstan oil company Emir Oil LLP. MIE Holdings is one of the leading independent upstream oil companies operating onshore in the People's Republic of China.
· AAC Capital Partners on selling Inalfa Roof Systems Group B.V. through a controlled auction to a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd (BAIC). Inalfa is one of the world's largest suppliers of vehicle roof systems. BAIC is one of the leading car manufacturers in China.
Geert holds a Ph.D. from Leiden University and was seconded to a US law firm in New York in 2005. He is the author of a number of books and articles on corporate law and related subjects.
