Jolling de Pree specialises in European and Dutch Competition Law. His previous experience in mergers and acquisitions strongly enhances his current practice, particularly his representing companies in international cartel investigations and in merger cases. Jolling advises major Dutch and international companies on their domestic and international competitions issues. His clients include Ahold, Eureko, KPN, Philips Electronics, Rabobank, Schiphol Airport, Tennet and Vion.
Jolling has wide experience in coordinating the defence in international cartel cases and handling multijurisdictional filings. He is also a litigator regulalry appearing before the European Court of Justice and national courts. He is noted for his “business sense, drive, creativity and never-give-up mentality.“ Through his involvement in international cartel investigations and cross-border M&A transactions, Jolling has established a network of contacts with experts working for first tier law firms in all major jurisdictions outside the Netherlands.
Recent work includes advising or assisting:
- an electronics company in its defence in ongoing international cartel investigations by the European Commission and various national competition authorities
- Netherlands-based transmission system operator TenneT on the EUR 1.1 billion acquisition of E.ON's 10.700 km extra-high voltage electricity transmission grid
- a major Dutch retail bank in relation to the cartel investigation of the Dutch competition authority into the financial sector.
Chambers single him out for his “top-drawer power of analysis and creativity.” And add that commentators say he is "abreast of all the latest developments".
Jolling lectures on EU and Dutch competition law at the Dutch Company Lawyers Association and is editor-in-chief of the treatise on competition law Tekst en Commentaar Mededingingswet. He is also a member of the board of the Dutch Competition Law Association. Jolling regularly appears in parliament as an expert advising on competition policy issues. Jolling has published collections on energy law and regulation (Energy Law, SdU 2005/2006) and competition law and regulation (Competition Law, SdU 2008).
