Rutger de Witt Wijnen heads De Brauw’s energy practice. He specialises in (renewable) energy projects, finance, regulatory and climate change law. He developed De Brauw's international climate change practice, advising financial institutions, governments, utilities, project developers and multilaterals on all aspects of climate change regulation and carbon finance.
Recent work includes advising:
- a multilateral carbon fund on its structure and its carbon contracts
- one of the largest European utilities on its carbon purchasing activities from projects in China and Latin America
- a large financial institution on the acquisition of carbon credits from the Ukraine
- a regional network operator on the sale of its shares
- on setting up a custody/escrow structure for one of the largest sovereign carbon transactions ever
Rutger is member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Gold Standard Foundation. As an active member of the International Emissions Trading Association, he is involved in drafting standard forms of agreement. Rutger is a frequent speaker at energy and climate change events and lectures in postgraduate programs.
