De Brauw's Insurance group covers all areas of insurance law and practice. The group focuses on advising and representing corporate clients and insurers on a broad range of complex contentious and non-contentious matters.

These complex insurance matters range from directors & officers liability insurance, general and product liability insurance and total insurance portfolios to policy wordings and (unit linked) life insurance. We take a proactive multi-disciplinary approach by offering independent advice on a range of insurance policy conditions. Our specialists advise on product liability, financial services liability, corporate governance and public law and appear before all Dutch courts, including the Supreme Court. We also have extensive experience in dealing with liability cases originating outside the Netherlands, for instance US-related asbestos and directors & officers liabilities.

De Brauw's Insurance practice group also has extensive experience in acting for insurance companies in relation to their corporate, governance and M&A work, investment management and financial markets regulatory matters. We have a particularly strong expertise in transactions for the raising of regulatory capital for insurance groups and advise frequently on complex prudential supervisory rules, particularly on issues that arise with the implementation of Solvency II. Industry focus is one of the key distinguishing factors of De Brauw's insurance regulatory practice. Members of the practice group are frequently involved in consultations of new legislation for the insurance industry and serve on expert groups advising legislative and supervisory authorities on implementation of European directives, such as Solvency II and other directives which affect the insurance industry.
