In 2017, we contributed to various pro bono initiatives aiming to help refugees set up their life in the Netherlands. First, a group of Syrian lawyers and law students from the Syria Legal Network attended several Legal English courses at De Brauw. With these courses, De Brauw would like to help Syrian lawyers and law students build – or rebuild – their legal careers in the Netherlands.
For more information about the Syrian Legal Network, see www.syrialegalnetwork.nl or contact Salima Guettache or Geert Potjewijd.
Furthermore, we have promoted and attended several so-called “Havendiners” in restaurant Macy’s in Amsterdam. The dinners are organised by Stichting Havenstraat. They are prepared by and for refugees that live in an asylum seekers’ centre in Amsterdam Zuid-Oost (the former Bijlmer prison). We have enjoyed dinner together with the refugees and hopefully gave them a joyful evening.
