AkzoNobel divests National Starch

De Brauw has advised AkzoNobel on its USD 1.3 billion divestment of National Starch to Corn Products International, Inc. This divestment is part of AkzoNobel’s transformation into the world’s largest global coatings and specialty chemicals company.

The US-based purchaser, Corn Products International, is a leading global provider of ingredient solutions for a highly diverse range of industries.

National Starch is a recognised innovator in food ingredients and specialty starches with a 2009 sales revenue of USD 1.2 billion. A subsidiary of the former ICI, National Starch was taken over by AkzoNobel as part of its acquisition of ICI in January 2008.
