Royal Ahold changes over to Google Apps

De Brauw advised Royal Ahold on a global IT services deal with Google. Ahold will be provided a single, web-based platform for e-mail, messaging, calendar and spreadsheet functionality for approximately 55,000 employees worldwide.

This platform will replace its existing email domains and systems in Europe and the US, runs entirely on non-dedicated infrastructure provided by Google and is based on a utility type services model.

The deal is one of the first major transactions of its kind (public cloud computing for business employees) in the Benelux, and groundbreaking as the largest of its kind globally to date.
