Jaap specialises in company law, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. Since joining De Brauw in 2014, Jaap has been involved in numerous public and private transactions and advised many companies on a wide range of corporate issues, including governance matters, joint ventures and shareholder activism.
In 2018 and 2019, Jaap was seconded to the New York law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
Jaap is a noted expert on company law. He lectures on corporate governance and corporate finance at the University of Amsterdam, is a regular speaker at conferences and regularly publishes on corporate law and M&A. Jaap has been a researcher at the Yale Law School and the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD (cum laude) in 2014.
Jaap is also a board member of the Dutch commercial law association (Vereeniging Handelsrecht) and an editor of the Dutch corporate law review (Maandblad voor Ondernemingsrecht).
