Selmer Bergsma specialises in intellectual property and commercial litigation. He has handled complex cases before all instances of Dutch courts and the European Court of Justice, as well as before arbitral institutions. Selmer has acted for numerous clients across industries and was involved in a number of landmark decisions.
Selmer is currently based out of the Singapore office. He has previously worked at the Amsterdam and London offices of De Brauw. Selmer was seconded to Slaughter and May in London in 2018 and to the Dutch National Think Tank in 2012. He was previously part of the Corporate/M&A team and continues to advise on, often IP-driven, transactions.
Selmer regularly speaks, teaches and publishes within his field of expertise and is recognised by various legal rankings. He is, for example, recognised as a Rising Star and “excellent associate” by Managing Intellectual Property. Legal500 recognises Selmer as a “key team member” and client feedback in Legal500 states that: “Selmer Bergsma shows great insight into our specific industry sector and has a pragmatic approach to the situation at hand”.
