Patrick Ploeger specialises in regulatory enforcement, internal and criminal investigations and litigation.
Patrick counsels corporates, financial institutions and professional services firms when they are faced with criminal or regulatory investigations by domestic or foreign authorities, and defends clients in court when challenging enforcement actions. He also leads international internal investigations into matters ranging from fraud, corruption and bribery, accounting irregularities, compliance failures and integrity issues to internal controls, interest rate benchmarks (LIBOR/Euribor), and insider trading. In addition, Patrick advises on export controls and economic sanctions.
Financial reporting and auditing are a particular focus area in Patrick’s advisory and litigation practice. His experience involves IFRS as well as Dutch and US GAAP. Patrick’s contentious work in this area includes representing clients in restatement proceedings, and advising and defending issuers and auditing firms in connection with investigations and enforcement actions taken by the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM).
Patrick also has extensive experience in litigating complex commercial and corporate disputes, including in arbitration, expert determinations, and Dutch appellate and Supreme Court proceedings.
Patrick is recommended by Legal 500 for his expertise in the area of fraud and white-collar crime and Who’s Who Legal as one of the world’s leading practitioners in the fields of internal investigations and white-collar crime.
Patrick practised law at De Brauw New York from 1999 to 2002. He regularly publishes and lectures in his areas of expertise and is an editor of the Journal for Financial Reporting Law.
