Sven’s practice focuses on corporate law, governance, advisory, and litigation.

Sven was General Counsel and member of the Executive Committee of AkzoNobel NV from 2010 to 2018 where he was responsible for Legal, Intellectual Property, Compliance, and Legacy Management. Sven was with Unilever from 2003 to 2009 where he was Group Secretary of Unilever NV and Unilever PLC.

Sven was a member of the Dutch Corporate Governance Committee and is a board member of the Dutch Association for Listed Companies (VEUO). He served on the Governing Body of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris and was a member of the Supervisory Council of the Dutch Arbitration Institute NAI, where he still serves as arbitrator. He was a member of the board of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution CPR in New York, and is a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal in The Hague.

Sven has extensive experience in handling a wide range of corporate, regulatory, litigation and compliance matters, in almost all major jurisdictions in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. He brings a client’s perspective and is able to combine legal and business strategic angles with a practical hands-on and results-driven approach.

Sven is professor of International Company Law at the Free University of Amsterdam. He regularly publishes on matters of corporate law and is a speaker at conferences on corporate governance and related matters.
