We are looking for a Senior Legal Adviser for our Data Protection practice.
Our data protection practice group assists large multinational companies on complex matters of data privacy that are driven by regulators in the European Union or result from private enforcement through litigation and mass claims. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge data protection matters. Often, these will bring you in unchartered territory of data protection regulations and their interaction with other areas of law, such as EU law, competition, consumer law and collective redress actions.
You will join a dynamic, international team of highly-qualified specialists who form part of our litigation and regulatory enforcement practice. The team is often engaged to leverage its unique creative and analytical capabilities to advise on yet unanswered legal questions and landmark matters. You will contribute to, and learn from being an integral part of the team.
The ideal candidate is an experienced lawyer who is at home in the data protection practice and who knows what matters to our clients. As a legal adviser, your main responsibility will be developing and sharing your expertise with colleagues throughout the firm, as well as with our clients. You will provide our dedicated team with ongoing guidance, mentoring and support, and you will also maintain close ties with lawyers in other jurisdictions relevant to our clients.
This is an ideal position for the lawyer who is looking for an intellectual challenge in an environment with good work-life balance or for someone who wants to work at a premier European law firm while pursuing an academic goal, such as completing a PhD thesis.
About the role
You will work closely with the lawyers in the practice group and on-going matters, and assist them as needed. This includes advising our lawyers on issues related to your area of expertise, organising training sessions, assisting in creating client presentations and supporting thought leadership initiatives. Other tasks include maintaining a knowledge database with precedents and drafting memoranda. You will also write updates and contribute to newsletters for clients and colleagues on developments relevant to the practice.
You will work closely with 15 other legal advisers across the firm. Together, these individuals form part of the broader Legal Operations department. Our Legal Operations department is responsible for optimising legal service delivery to our clients. We are constantly reviewing and improving on the way we work. And as part of your role, you will drive innovation in our data protection practice. You will regularly share best practices among our legal advisers. We offer you a challenging and independent role with flexible working hours in a dynamic and international practice.
Our ideal candidate
- has at least 3 years of experience as a lawyer or counsel in an international practice, ideally in the European Union;
- has a good understanding of data protection issues and dynamics at an European level, and is able to see the big picture;
- is innovative, self-starting, sociable and assertive in dealing with all levels of an organization;
- has good communication skills – a team player who is able to connect at all levels of the firm;
- is well-organised and hands-on;
- has good writing skills, an excellent command of the English language, and working knowledge of the Dutch language (minimum B2 level);
- is a skilled PowerPoint user, and is IT-savvy.
(Candidates with a non-Dutch law background are also invited to apply)
