Alumni newsletter De Brauw April 2026

Dear alumni,

Here is the latest edition of our alumni newsletter. As always, it brings together a range of perspectives and stories from within De Brauw and our wider community. I hope you enjoy reading it.

With AI reshaping legal practice faster than most of us anticipated, you would think we now have ample time to read. Even at De Brauw, the numbers speak for themselves: a reliable source has informed me that our lawyers issue nearly 30,000 AI prompts every day. A quick calculation shows that at a modest productivity gain of one minute per prompt, a massive number of hours should become available for other activities. But I have also heard that writing a good prompt might take a few minutes - cancelling out part of the time savings. Of course, I am sure that the undoubted qualitative improvements from AI use will make a purely quantified assessment impossible.

As it turns out, I am not the only alumnus interested in this topic. Last month, a group of former partners attended a De Brauw session on AI. Kees Saarloos and Saskia Hoogakker walked the group through the latest AI developments and shared examples of how the technology is being used in day-to-day work. Dennis Horeman chaired a discussion on the strategic questions that AI poses for De Brauw: dilemmas without easy answers that nevertheless shape the firm's decisions.

Why don't we talk about this in more detail at the upcoming De Brauw alumni event in June? I look forward to seeing you there!
