The Dutch implementation of the Whistleblowers Directive

In order to provide a minimum level of protection to persons who encounter and report violations of Union law in the course of their work, the European Whistleblower Protection Directive entered into force on December 7, 2019. By December 17, 2021, this directive must be implemented in Dutch law. In order to bring the current regulations governing this subject in line with the directive, some changes need to be made. More specifically, this means that the regulation for whistleblowers, currently laid down in the House for Whistleblowers Act, will be amended. At the end of July 2020, the draft bill as well as the draft explanatory memorandum were published for consultation. Based on these documents, this contribution highlights the proposed amendments to the House for Whistleblowers Act.
