De Brauw assists Gasunie with the issuance of its inaugural Green Bond

N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie has successfully issued its inaugural Green Bond. The issue amounts to EUR 300 million with a tenor of 9,5 years, maturing on 22 May 2033. Gasunie is the first operator of a national gas transmission grid in the eurozone to issue a Green Bond. The bond was issued in accordance with Gasunie's recently published Green Financing Framework, which follows the ICMA Green Bond Principles. The adoption of this framework is an important next step in Gasunie's sustainable finance journey, following (amongst other things) the structuring of its Sustainability-Linked Bond (SLB) Framework and two consecutive SLB issuances.

De Brauw is pleased to have been able to assist its long-term client Gasunie with incorporating its Green Financing Framework into the Euro Medium Term Note programmes. This first-of-a-kind issuance for Gasunie underlines the broader market trend of an increased focus on the ESG aspects of financing arrangements, including in the green bond market (where the proceeds are used for certain eligible green projects).
