Summary

Ana specialises in international commercial and investment arbitration, where she advises clients in complex disputes in various economic sectors and industries. She has acted as counsel in numerous arbitration proceedings under the ICC, LCIA, and ICSID rules, as well as before the Madrid Court of Arbitration and ad hoc arbitration proceedings under the UNCITRAL rules. Ana has also represented clients before the Spanish courts.
Prior to joining De Brauw in 2017, Ana was Legal Advisor to the Honourable Judge Herbert Kronke at the Iran – United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague.

Before this, she was an associate in the International Arbitration practice group of a major international firm, and in the litigation and arbitration practice group of a leading Spanish law firm in Madrid.

Ana's current and recent work includes representing:

  • an international energy company in a gas price review arbitration under a long-term gas sales agreement under the ICC rules
  • a European engineering company in an ICC arbitration in Geneva under Swiss law against a global confectionary producer
  • a global special chemicals company in an ICC arbitration in Barcelona under Spanish law against a Spanish chemicals company
  • former majority shareholders of Yukos in setting aside proceedings for three UNCITRAL arbitral awards worth USD 50 billion against the Russian Federation under the ECT
  • financial services group NN in its ICSID investment arbitration under the Netherlands-Argentina BIT against the Argentine Republic in connection with the expropriation of NN's pension business
  • a global optical retailing company in an ICC arbitration in Geneva under Dutch law against a French-Italian eyewear group
  • a Latin American State in three investment treaty arbitrations, two before ICSID and third pursuant to the UNCITRAL Rules, related to different measures of nationalisation of assets
  • a Latin American State in proceedings related to the enforcement of an ICSID award in Spain
  • several Spanish companies in two ICC proceedings against a Texan company, relating to the distribution of work within the consortium for the construction of a petrochemical plant in Mexico
