Summary

Mariken is Head of our Financial Markets Regulation Group and co-head of our Financial Institutions Group. She focuses on matters of strategic importance to financial institutions, with a particular emphasis on regulatory capital transactions, recovery and resolution planning, governance and has broad experience in advising on regulatory matters that arise in complex transactions. Mariken also advises on licence requirements and on the ongoing obligations for a broad range of financial institutions, including banks, brokers, insurance companies and payment institutions.

In 2019, Mariken was inducted into the Legal 500 category 'leading individual' in the 'Banking and finance: Financial services regulatory'.

Chambers describes her as "a trusted boardroom adviser who is practical and solid."

Mariken’s recent work includes advising:

  • ABN AMRO on its listing on Euronext Amsterdam
  • Rabobank and its subsidiary DDL on the sale of Athlon Car Lease to Daimler AG for EUR 1.1 billion
  • Rabobank on the listing of its Member Certificates on Euronext Amsterdam
  • Consortium of investors on the acquisition of LeasePlan for EUR 3.7 billion
  • APG on the EUR 450 million sale of its insurance subsidiary Loyalis to A.S.R. in a controlled auction
  • The shareholders on the sale of a majority stake in TAF
  • Aon on the EUR 295 million acquisition of Unirobe Meeùs Group from Aegon
  • NN Group on the termination of the strategically important 9.99% warrant agreement held by ING since the IPO
  • Achmea on the sale of Independer
  • BHIIL, a UK-based commercial insurer on its strategy for entering the Dutch commercial underwriting market and on the application or a license from the AFM as insurance underwriter

She creates a very strong strategy by taking into account the various aspects of running a company.
