De Brauwerij - What can you expect?

De Brauw editorial 1

Opportunity and support, every step of the way

The Opportunity
De Brauwerij welcomes a new group of associates twice a year, in February and August.

This one-of-a kind six-month training programme for Dutch lawyers is an unrivalled opportunity to learn 'on the job'. We are the only firm that is accredited to organise a part of the legal vocational training (the 'Beroepsopleiding') in-house. You will have your own clients, and extensive theory and practical tuition under the supportive guidance of senior associate mentors.

Your Support
Our mentors have recently walked in your shoes, they know what will help. They step aside from practice for a short period to champion you to get the best out of the programme, and out of yourself.

Our De Brauwerij trainees form strong and enduring friendships with their intake peers. From this group your network across the firm grows as, after six months, you move on to a position within one of our Litigation or Corporate practice groups.

Your Development
De Brauwerij comprises many different courses which will develop your legal, professional and personal skills, from litigating and presenting, negotiating and entrepreneurship, through to communication and leadership.

You will also participate in our 'Inside Out' programme, co-created with The School of Life. This personal development course will enrich and support your development focusing on the four pillars of Me, Culture, Society and Relationships.

How to apply
If you are ready to apply your ability, have fun and grow - be sure to upload all of the following documents on our application portal:

  • A letter of motivation (maximum one side of A4) in Dutch/English;
  • Your Curriculum Vitae (maximum two sides of A4) in Dutch/English;
  • Complete transcripts of all results to include high school, Bachelor’s and Master’s results;
  • Evaluation report(s) from all previous internships; and
  • Your theses or any papers written during your Master’s programme;
  • (A reference letter – if applicable).

The next steps
After the cut-off time of 09:00 CET each Monday, our hiring partner, Wiebe Dijkstra and our Recruitment Team, will review all of the documentation that you and other would-be candidates have submitted in that previous week.

Stages 1 and 2 – Assessment and Interviews
If you are invited for the first round of interviews, you will be asked to complete an online assessment (personality test from The Selection Lab).

The interviews will be conducted on a Friday, and you will find out on the same day whether you have been selected to proceed to the next stage.

Stages 3 and 4 – Assessment and Interviews
In the week after your first interviews, you will be invited to take the Watson Glaser test. On the Friday of this second week, those selected will be invited for two final interviews.

If you are successful, you will find out on the same day as your final interviews.

The next De Brauwerij will begin on 12 February 2024. The application deadline for De Brauwerij of February 2024 is 15 November 2023. Candidate civil law notaries can apply all year round.
