Law Assistant - Public Law (Regulation)

2024 De Brauw Tripolis34

Are you a curious student looking for the opportunity to work for two days a week in a Dutch leading law firm with an international focus? Do you have specific interest in public law? And do you want to experience De Brauw's culture and environment for yourself? Then a position as law assistant is a suitable opportunity for you!

Your role as a law assistant

A law assistantship is the best way to long-term introduce yourself in our firm and the public law practice, as you will become part of our team for at least six months for two days a week. As such, you will work closely with our legal adviser and our lawyers, participating in know-how, legal research and our matters. As a member of our public law team you will participate in practice meetings, learn on the job, put theory into practice, take part in discussions and explore new areas of law. You will have the opportunity to develop your professional and personal skills.

The practice

De Brauw tackles critical regulatory issues, both nationally and internationally, including environmental and energy law cases like the Porthos (carbon capture project) and the national hydrogen network. We are also involved in significant regulatory actions, such as those concerning nitrogen emissions at airports like Schiphol. As legal counsel to the Dutch parliament, we cover a broad spectrum of legal questions, from constitutional to tax law. Our pro bono work extends to human rights, EU law, and more.

Our cases often require collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams. We serve state-owned and major corporate clients, aiming for the highest quality in our work.

Overall, we advise and litigate on questions ranging from environmental, energy, state aid, market regulation, constitutional, and administrative law, as well as information access and human rights. We excel at complex and innovative cases and often handle politically sensitive issues needing strategic guidance.

We are looking for someone who is…

  • a third-year Bachelor or a Master's student, with a strong academic record
  • eager and excited to learn
  • team player
  • meticulous and well organised
  • proactive
  • fluent in Dutch and English
  • can work for us at least 15 hours a week for six months. If this does not fit into your schedule, we are open to discuss alternative options
