Legal Adviser Employment, Pensions & Remuneration (Academic Profile)
We are looking for a Legal Adviser with a strong academic profile to join our Employment, Pensions & Remuneration practice group. This position is ideal for legal professionals – whether admitted to the Dutch bar or not – who wish to combine work at a top-tier European law firm with academic pursuits, such as completing a PhD thesis, or who hold or are pursuing a teaching or research position at a university or law school.
About the role
As a Legal Adviser, your main responsibility will be developing and sharing your expertise with colleagues throughout the firm, as well as with our clients. You will serve as the content and know-how anchor of the practice group, monitoring and interpreting developments in employment law, pensions and remuneration from a scholarly perspective and sharing those developments with your colleagues in a way that allows for direct application in ongoing matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Writing updates and contributing to newsletters on developments relevant to the practice, for both clients and colleagues
- Contributing to thought leadership in the fields of employment law, pensions and/or remuneration, including through publications, participation in conferences and roundtables, and other high-impact external activities
- Advising our lawyers on issues related to your area of expertise, organising knowledge-sharing sessions and training events, assisting in the preparation of client presentations, and developing tools
- Maintaining a knowledge base of precedents, drafting memoranda and developing templates
- Translating complex academic and other developments into practical insights for clients and the practice group
- Working alongside other team members on client publications and events
We currently have two vacancies for the position of Legal Adviser within our practice group: one with a more Academic Profile and one with a more Commercial / Pragmatic Profile. The two Legal Advisers will collaborate closely, each bringing their distinct strengths to the practice group. You will also work closely with other legal advisers, who together form part of the broader Legal Operations department. Our Legal Operations department is responsible for optimising legal service delivery to our clients.
Who are you?
The ideal candidate:
- Has a PhD (or is writing a PhD) in employment law, pensions law, social security law or a closely related field, or combines this role with a postdoctoral research or teaching position at a university or law school
- Has at least 2 years of relevant professional legal experience
- Is building a strong reputation as a specialist in employment law, pensions and/or remuneration
- Has strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex academic content into practical legal insights
- Has good communication skills and is a team player who can connect at all levels of the firm
- Is intellectually curious, proactive and self-motivated.
We offer a part-time position of 3 days per week, with flexible working arrangements designed to accommodate ongoing academic or teaching commitments.
