The Debate: Is it the President who decides?

On 23 May 2017, the International Arbitration partners of the Best Friends hosted “The Debate” at the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée in Paris which gathered 100 guests including prominent figures from the international arbitration community, clients, experts and academics. The topic of this sixth edition was “Is it the President who decides?”. Tim Portwood (Bredin Prat) moderated the Debate and Gabriel Bottini (Uría Menéndez) acted as the Master of Ceremony for the event.
The panel of speakers consisted of Annabelle Bennett, senior counsel at 5 Wentworth in Sydney and retired judge of the Federal Court of Australia; Alexander Fessas, Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris; Alice Fremuth-Wolf, Secretary General of the Vienna International Arbitration Centre; Teresa Giovannini, partner at Lalive in Geneva; Laurent Lévy, partner at Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler in Geneva; and Sir Bernard Rix, arbitrator at 20 Essex Street in London and retired Lord Justice of Appeal.
