About this office
Our competition and regulatory practice in Brussels has grown considerably over the past eight years. There are two partners at De Brauw Brussels: Jolling de Pree and Bart de Rijke, and one counsel: Helen Gornall. They work together with a number of senior and junior associates and interns from a range of countries and speaking a range of languages. Our office in Brussels forms an integral part of De Brauw’s Competition and Regulation practices in Amsterdam, which numbers more than 30 lawyers.
International and EU competition law form the core of our practice.
Our clients include corporates, financial institutions and private equity companies from around the world. We advise them not only on their dealings with the European Commission and EU national competition authorities, but also on proceedings before national and EU courts. We also assist our clients in competition law matters outside Europe.
Our Best Friends
We share our office in Brussels with our Best Friends. Each of these firms have an excellent reputation and a long-standing presence in Brussels: Slaughter and May (UK), Hengeler Mueller (Germany), Uría Menéndez (Spain and Portugal), Bredin Prat (France) and BonelliErede (Italy). Furthermore, we enjoy close working relationships with these firms. Moreover, we also nurture similar links with other first-tier law firms in every major jurisdiction around the world, which means that coordination of multi-jurisdictional matters in and outside Europe is part of our practice. In fact, more than half of our practice is cross-border in nature.
All our international trainees start their careers in our Brewery programme in Amsterdam. Internships for LLM students are available in our Immersion Programme. We do not operate a trainee programme in our Brussels office aimed at becoming qualified in Belgium.
We are always looking for experienced and qualified associates for our growing international and EU competition practice with 3-5 years of relevant working experience. We offer an inspiring and inclusive workplace for associates who want to be at the forefront of global competition law developments and are eager to further grow professionally. The complexity of the cases in combination with a culture of professional growth and the continuing expansion of our practice creates attractive career opportunities. Practically all of the group’s matters are conducted in English. Knowledge of Dutch is not a requirement for this position, or for subsequent positions at the firm. For more information and the application procedures, please visit our career page: www.careersatdebrauw.com.
If you are interested in joining our team, please send your CV to Mathias Machtens (email@example.com) for an informal and confidential meeting with one of the partners or senior associates in Brussels. At this meeting, we will exchange thoughts on what could be a mutually beneficial relationship. After this meeting, you decide if you want to submit a formal application.
In addition to the career opportunities at De Brauw, our European ‘Best Friends‘ offer further opportunities to work in Brussels, as well as elsewhere in or outside Europe.
