Summary

Carolien specialises in corporate and commercial litigation. She represents national and international companies in complex matters before Dutch courts, including the Enterprise Chamber. Carolien acts for companies and management in a number of sectors, including energy, agriculture, retail, franchise, manufacturing, insurance and financial services.

Carolien has a broad litigation practice that covers various types of corporate and commercial disputes, and often represents clients in class actions. Carolien has a particular interest in contract law, procedural law and liability matters.

Before joining De Brauw's Litigation practice, Carolien formed part of the Corporate practice, where she worked on various M&A matters in multiple jurisdictions. She was seconded by De Brauw to Akzo Nobel's corporate legal team in 2017.

Carolien's recent experience includes advising and representing:

  • A Chinese state-owned enterprise in a high-value dispute about professional services liability
  • A supermarket retailer in a commercial dispute about the interpretation of contractual, financial arrangements
  • A financial services institution in a high-value dispute concerning the interpretation of a shares scheme
  • A Dutch company in commercial and corporate disputes related to product liability claims
  • Oil and gas companies in ESG-related disputes
  • Various companies in attachment proceedings and proceedings regarding liability for attachments
