Summary

Irina is counsel in De Brauw's Employment, Pensions and Remuneration team.

A particular focus of Irina's practice is pension law, in addition to her work in traditional employment law. Recognising the increasing complexity and strategic importance of pension-related issues in employment relationships, she completed advanced studies in pension law at VU University Amsterdam in 2026 (cum laude), qualifying as a Certified Pension Lawyer.

As part of her pension-related work, Irina advises and litigates in complex matters about transition under the Future of Pensions Act, pension compensation, indexation disputes and co-determination cases. She also handles scope disputes relating to mandatory pension fund participation, exemption requests, the consequences of false self-employment, and the amendment of pension schemes. As pension law often requires a multidisciplinary approach, Irina regularly collaborates closely with other specialists at De Brauw, as well as external experts when non-legal expertise is required.

Another area of focus for Irina is litigation before the Dutch Supreme Court, where she is qualified to handle appeals. She has represented companies, individual employees, pension providers and trade unions in numerous high-profile, landmark cases before this court, helping to shape key precedents in Dutch pensions and employment law.

Irina has also represented clients before other courts, including district courts, sub-district courts, courts of appeal, the Enterprise Chamber, the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights, the Pension Fund Disputes Body (GIP), and the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Irina is actively engaged in legal education and academic life, regularly acts as a moot court judge, and has served on a specialised thinktank advising on a bill on modernisation of non-compete clauses. She publishes in legal journals on pension and employment law, including:
