Svetlana assists clients on European and global data protection and data governance issues in complex international matters handled by De Brauw's privacy, data & cybersecurity team. She is recognised for her in-depth legal expertise, combined with her attention to detail and holistic thinking.

During her first six years at De Brauw, Svetlana worked as a senior legal adviser in the privacy, data & cybersecurity group, combining legal practice with academic research. Svetlana has published extensively on governance of cross-border data flows from international trade and data protection law perspectives. Her publications are regularly cited by globally recognised experts, international organisations and European institutions. Svetlana has also taught international data protection law as an adjunct professor at Cardozo School of Law in New York. In 2021, Svetlana obtained a PhD (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam. Svetlana's new book titled "Governing Cross-Border Data Flows: Reconciling EU Data Protection and International Trade Law" was published by Oxford University Press in March 2024.

Before joining De Brauw, Svetlana worked for the Moscow office of Debevoise & Plimpton; for a Russian law firm she co-founded; and for Allianz Global Assistance Russia.
