
Selmer Bergsma is a seasoned IP litigator with over a decade of experience helping leading companies protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. He advises on the full spectrum of IP matters, from trademarks, designs and copyright to trade secrets and complex FRAND licensing disputes. He is also highly experienced in technology-driven litigation, guiding clients through a broad range of fast-moving issues around software, AI, media, evidentiary measures, advertising, reputational and sustainability claims.
Beyond his IP practice, Selmer is a recognised expert in arbitration and commercial litigation, bringing a broad dispute resolution perspective to complex, high-stakes matters. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous landmark cases. His practice spans both national and international matters, having worked from De Brauw's Singapore, London and Amsterdam offices.
Selmer is recognised by Chambers (Up and Coming), Legal 500 (Next Generation Partner), Managing IP (Rising Star) and WTR1000 (Bronze), and is a respected and influential voice in the IP community. He served as chairman of the Dutch AIPPI working group that produced the organisation's position paper on cross-border injunctions, reflecting his standing as a thought leader on IP procedural law.
A leading lecturer on IP law, Selmer presents regularly at conferences and industry events and publishes frequently on trademark, copyright and trade secret law, as well as on procedural issues such as evidentiary measures. He teaches at the SK Martens Academy and has long contributed to the training of future Benelux trademark and design lawyers through the BBMM programme.
