As part of De Brauwerij, you will join our Inside Out programme. It was crafted alongside The School of Life, for a journey of self-understanding. Alongside others, you'll delve into your own values and drivers. We have designed this programme to boost the personal skills you need, not just in your career, but in life too.

One of the programme's key advantages is the opportunity it offers to genuinely connect with your peers, which often result in a deepening of your ties to them. The programme pivots around four key themes: 'Self', 'Culture', 'Society', and 'Relationships'.

THE PILLARS OF OUR PROGRAMME

This block will focus on:

  • Self Awareness - understanding yourself, your style, qualities and pitfalls and how to deal with them.
  • Resilience - the ability to take care of yourself and understand what is needed to be vital and resilient.
  • Effectiveness - Prioritising effectively, remaining calm when under pressure and learn how to bounce back when you’ve made a mistake.

Society

This block will focus on:

  • Social awareness - approaching a challenge from more than just the legal perspective; thinking critically and making conscious choices from the bigger picture.
  • Community involvement - knowing what is of value to you and how to contribute to our role in society by engaging in pro-bono activities, being active in partnerships or participating in the public debate.

This block will focus on:

  • Culture congruence - understanding whether you fit in the organisational culture and how it can work for you (e.g. through the choice of department or leaders). Discover how our values Curious, Collecting and Courage apply to you.

LET’S GET IN TOUCH

Anything else we can help you with? Please don’t hesitate to contact us by phone, email or Instagram.

We look forward to hearing from you.

What are the options for a secondment?

You can be seconded to a client in the Netherlands or abroad. You can also be seconded to a foreign law firm with whom we have a close relationship. Secondments are normally reserved for senior associates. Being seconded in your first few years at De Brauw is unlikely. However, associates (and senior associates) may get the opportunity to work at one of our own offices abroad (most likely in Brussels or London).

What are my prospects of becoming a senior associate at De Brauw?

We never limit the number of senior associates appointed in any given year. We hope that everyone in De Brauwerij/The Brewery becomes a senior associate at De Brauw. Whether we make you an offer to become a senior associate simply depends on your development and performance as an associate.

What does my career path look like after De Brauwerij/The Brewery and can I join a practice group of my choice?

After completing De Brauwerij or The Brewery, you will join one of our practice groups for a period of 18 months. While we do take your preferences into account before you are assigned to a specific practice group, we cannot guarantee that you will join the practice group of your choice. After 18 months, you will rotate to a different practice group to ensure that you gain sufficient experience in both transactional/corporate and litigation/regulatory work.

After 3.5 years, you will either be offered a senior associate position at De Brauw with a permanent contract, or you will receive support to plan your transition to a suitable position elsewhere.
